Volunteering @ VEAP

Frequently Asked Questions

(FAQs)

Is there a minimum number of hours I need to commit to volunteer?

There are no required minimum number of hours to volunteer in our Pantry. For any role that requires specific training, such as Participant Intake, we request you commit to at least 25 hours. This ensures the most efficient training.

I do not have a regular schedule and/or only want to volunteer during certain times of the year. Is that okay?

Absolutely! You can sign up for shifts that work with your schedule, whether that is weekly, monthly, or whenever you have some spare time. Please note: if it has been over a year since you last volunteered, you may need to re-register for an account and attend an orientation session.

I signed up for an account, but cannot see any volunteer opportunities.

You will not be able to see the available opportunities until you have completed the full onboarding process.  For Adult Volunteers that includes an orientation session, completion of compliance documents, and a criminal background check. For Youth, you will need to submit your signed Parent/Guardian Permission and Liability Waiver.

I need hours for court-ordered community service, can VEAP provide me with those hours?

VEAP no longer provides hours for court-ordered community service.

Can I just walk into VEAP and ask to volunteer today?

Unfortunately, no. We work with vulnerable populations, have limited space, and welcome over one hundred registered volunteers daily to help us provide services to our communities. We maintain a secure facility and do require all volunteers to undergo an onboarding process prior to volunteering.

What is the minimum age my child can volunteer?

Youth 10-16 years old may volunteer in the Pantry if they are accompanied by an adult family member who is also a registered VEAP volunteer. 16+ years may volunteer independently.

Can I bring my child with me during my own volunteer shift?

Yes, if they meet the minimum age requirements, are registered as a Youth Volunteer, and are on the schedule, your child is welcome to join you on your shift. Please connect with us however, if you would like to volunteer as a family (3 + members).
